SAFRANIN

Safranin is a red color cationic dye. It is mostly used in plant histology protocols to stain the nuclei in red and some cell walls, such as secondary cell walls, where lignin is stained. It is also useful for Gram staining in bacteria.

Procedure

1 g safranin (C.I. 75100)

15,5 ml 95º ethanol

14,5 ml distilled water

Notes

Dilute the safranin solution with 50º ethanol (1:1) before used.
